The present work presents a reflection exercise on rehabilitation feasibility of a listed building, which has historical value and unquestionable aesthetic quality, making it possible not only to be accessible to all people, but also to besubject to reappropriation by its new use. This work is about the case study of a Banco do Brasil property located at the Petrópolis City Historic Center , wich was built in 1926 in an eclectic style, and remains empty and unused, despite its central location in the city and its undeniable architectural quality, and its interior space have been greatly altered. One of the claimed reasons for its deactivation was the fact it would not be possible to make it accessible to people with disabilities. The study that supports this work sought to ascertain if it would be possible to restore the beauty and greatness of the original building while allowing to enjoy it. Iy discusses a proposal for an experimental project that would transform it into a cultural and gastronomic center available to all individuals, including those onesshowing locomotion difficulties and people with disabilities. In our conclusions we point to the importance to enlarge the concept of patrimony, so that it does not freeze the object in its past time, making it impossible to take indispensable actions to guarantee its usability and consequently its preservation for future generations.
