The present work has as proposal the transformation of the Municipal Zoo, considered Cultural Heritage of the City of Rio de Janeiro in Bioparque. The research and the proposed project aim at recovering the sense of appropriation of the existing space, making it compatible with the current demands and needs of the place and the population who visit it, thus strengthening the relationship between this cultural heritage, its surroundings and with society. After choosing the object of study, a survey was conducted of data collection at the Zoo of the City of Rio de Janeiro and its surroundings by the author and of examples of Zoo projects in Brazil and other countries in search of information and guidelines for a proposal of intervention with the purpose of retrieving and guaranteeing the permanence of their identity, acting in the maintenance of collective memory. Nowadays, the accelerated growth the urban environment, the bad planning and maintenance of accesses and internal and external open spaces, and the lack of public attention led to the erosion of this Cultural Heritage, and consequently of urban memory of the City of Rio de Janeiro.
