This work aims to contribute to the preservation of the architectural heritage of Rio Janeiro's City. Its main objective is to describe specification guidelines for the rehabilitation of buildings with historical and cultural value, in central areas, focusing on the Region of Gamboa - RJ, which passes through an accelerated process of revitalization. To do so, was assessed the potential for use and occupancy of these properties, from literature surveys and field in order to identify recurrent categories in the area, such as buildings in ruins with empty land, ruins with internal traces elements, precarious constructions, consolidated constructions and underutilized sheds. These categories give a low occupational density character; many empty lots and underused or vacant buildings, in a place full of infrastructure, services and transport with the potential to receive residents. It is notice that the incentive to the occupation of these units will change the current scenario, encouraging the permanence of residential use in the City Center. The project has proposed two occupancy models for the selected category - underused hangars - which do not have a project to development but preserve yours traditional features of the property. So assists in the maintaining to the history and memory of the City through Architecture.
