Professional Master Degree Dissertation

This work deals with the theme of free spaces, specifically on university campuses, with a case study of Campus Pasteur 436, from the Federal University of the State of Rio de Janeiro (UNIRIO) and has as itsgeneral objective the design of free spaces as a structuring element and aggregator capable of contributing to the formation of the university campus idea, through the identification of its material and immaterial values. The methodology used for the research involved varied methods such as historiographical research with the survey and analysis of iconographic, cartographic, notary and bibliographic documents; qualitative field research with morphological survey and analysis of the main structural elements of the campus; qualitative ethnographic field research on the functional dynamics of the campus free space system and the systematic analysis of landscape designs for university campuses and the construction of different design scenarios. The applicationof this methodology made it possible to recognize the historical context that led to the formation of Campus Pasteur 436 and to analyze it in its morphological dimensions and its appropriations in order to identify its main weaknesses and potentialities. Based on the recognition of the university cultural heritage of the campus in question and associated with the analysis of the landscape projects of other university campuses, two strategies for the landscape project were defined: unity and diversity, the first being related to materiality for the construction of an identity to the campus and the second to the different ambiences inherent in the campus for the development of a sense of belonging. In this way, the landscape design of the campus with a singleroute was elaborated, interconnecting all the buildings and the creation of three centralities -the three event areas, recognizing the diversity of the activities that take place there.

Keyword:1. Landscape project. 2. Open space system. 3. University campus. 4. University cultural heritage.
