The work in question presents an intervention proposal for the Georges Bernanos Museum, an architectural example of great importance to Barbacena, a municipality located in the mesoregion of Campo das Vertentes, Minas Gerais state. The place, which came to be transformed into a museum-house in 1968, was consecrated as a cultural heritage when protected by municipal decree 6043/2007, affirming its role as patrimony that deserves to be preserved. Currently, in addition to the use as a museum, other cultural activities take place in the buildings and open spaces such as ballet, karate, gym class, ballroom, theater, capoeira, guitar lessons, fabric painting, crafts and English. The project was built in three complementary stages. One of historical research, seeking the set of building's understandment and their course in time. One of characterization and conservation assessment which studies its urbanlandscape context beyond its current state of conservation. Finally, the proposal stage, based on the understanding of its complexities through theoretical reflections about cultural heritage preservation in contemporaneity. Therefore it’s expected that the proposal can adapt to reality and aspirations of local people who use the place daily, aiming an increasingly fomentation of the existing sense of belonging and cultural identity contributing to the Museum's preservation.
