The following study presents a proposal about the necessity to make a cultural asset accessible to society as a whole, without segregation, supporting the importance of the inclusion of children with physical or sensory disabilities in public spaces for children's leisure. The project has as a case study the Children's Park, a play area for kids located in the Flamengo Park, which is a heritage-listed public space, recognized by the population, full of options for leisure activities and which still represents part of the site of World Heritage of Cultural Landscape of the city of Rio de Janeiro. However, it does not yet have an inclusive space for children, which is everyone’s right. The developed proposal, therefore, aims to enable the enjoyment of this cultural asset to all citizens, in order for it to fulfill the social role that all public spaces must offer. The project presents an accessible and sensitive architectural intervention, proposing new recreational uses for the park, which may add value to the use of space and strengthen the child's identity links with the place, preserving its architectural and landscape elements. As a result from this project, we hope to be able to subsidize proposals for accessible interventions in public leisure spaces, which may be carried out not only on designated heritage assets but throughout the entire city.
