The Chapel of Santo Aleixo, INEPAC’s cultural heritage – Instituto Estadual do Patrimônio Cultural - located in the municipality of Magé/RJ, was built in the period 1743- 1747 and is probably the only church dedicated to this saint in the entire national territory. Over the past century, its surroundings have undergone several interventions that, due to the lack of legal provisions or specific regulations aimed at controlling urban use and occupation of cultural assets, resulted in disorderly growth and negatively interfered in the Chapel's ambience. This work aims to elaborate an urban conservation project that meets the particularities inherent to the protection and enhancement of the ambience of the cultural asset in question. For this, the work was developed based on bibliographic research on the protection of material heritage with regard to the conservation of the surroundings of architectural cultural assets and historical research on the building and its surroundings. Afterwards, an analysis was carried out around the Chapel to identify the main problems related to its interference in the fruition of the cultural asset. All of this resulted in the elaboration of an urban project for the surrounding area where it was considered the understanding of the dynamics of the transformation of the landscapes and the identification of their particularities as tools to order and value the Chapel of Santo Aleixo.
