Professional Master Degree Dissertation

Professional Master Degree Dissertation

The area between the Port and the Palace is one of the oldest areas in the city having important historical and cultural value for the capital of Espírito Santo. There are many heritage buildings and monuments in it and the area mars the beginning of the colonization of Vitória, in 1551. Along the years, the modernization processes of the city and the port completely modified the landscape, ending up losing its identity and its meaning to the city. Starting from the idea that in some years the Port will no longer be active in that region, the project aims to requalify the old area between Portand Palacio Anchieta, through remodeling its open spaces seeking integration between these and the appreciation of the city-sea relationship creating new elements and proposing new uses in order to promote ownership by residents and visitors. The paper also valuing it as a structure, preserving views and creating new spaces for contemplation, valuing the place. Finally, the paper contributes to the discussion about the requalification and reintegration of port areas in the urban context, proposing design and project solutions consistent with the existing problems in the city and highlighting the importance of open spaces and their relationship with the built heritage in the landscape requalification.
