The preservation of modern architecture is an expanding field of cultural heritage and it is urgent, given the accelerated degradation of these assets, whether due to the decrepitude caused by their aging, or by inadequate interventions that lead to their mischaracterization. In this scenario, the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) stands out for its academic activities in this field, for its modern built heritage and for the set of actions aimed at its preservation. Among them, the Instituto de Puericultura e Pediatria Martagão Gesteira (IPPMG) stands out, the first building inaugurated in Cidade Universitária. The building was landscaped by Roberto Burle Marx and designed by Jorge Machado Moreira, author of the general plan of the campus and other buildings, such as the Faculdade de Arquitetura e Urbanismo. IPPMG maintains its original use as a pediatric hospital and research and training center in the health area. Among the challenges of its preservation, the need to recognize the building as a cultural asset and the urgency of planning interventions (conservative and restoration) that aim to reconcile its demands as a public hospital and a built cultural asset stand out. The objective of this research is to elaborate an IPPMG Conservation Plan. To this end, a historical contextualization was carried out, parallel to the thematic deepening and the study of precedents, which supported the analysis of the IPPMG and, finally, the elaboration of the Plan. The result is a set of guidelines of different scales that guide the planning of interventions necessary for the preservation of IPPMG.
