RESTAURAÇÃO DE OBRA MODESTA NA RUA SENADOR POMPEU 75, APAC SAGAS, RIO DE JANEIRO: INSTALAÇÃO DO CENTRO DE REFERÊNCIA DO MOVIMENTO SOCIAL NEGRO

Trabalho de conclusão de Mestrado Profissional

The main objective of this dissertation research proposal is to restore a two-story house located at Rua Senador Pompeu, 75, in downtown Rio de Janeiro, protected by the Area for the Protection of the Cultural Environment of the Saúde, Gamboa and Santo Cristo neighborhoods (APAC-SAGAS), and adapt the new use for the Black Social Movement's Contemporary Agenda Reference Center Program, with the purpose of meeting the principles of "minimum loss" and "minimum intervention" and preserving the integrity and authenticity of modest works, such as the house chosen as a case study. In order to hold events at the Reference Center with a large audience, the research was expanded, with the selection of two open spaces near the archaeological site Cais do Valongo, in the Port Region of Rio de Janeiro, where thousands of enslaved Africans disembarked in the 19th century. From the preliminary assessment, it will be possible to define the main characteristics that support the cultural value of this historic building and the criteria to be adopted for its conservation. Aspects of conservation theory related to dealing with modest architecture buildings will be identified. As a result, it can be said that the building still retains characteristics from the late 19th century. The idea is to maintain the original remaining conformation, preserving the existing heights and avoiding the discarding of the original internal arrangements, so that the atmosphere of the built cultural property is maintained, for the enjoyment of its regulars.
